Job Summary
Athabasca Tribal Council is seeking a highly dedicated human resources professional with excellent interpersonal skills to join our team as a Human Resources Generalist. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting a broad range of human resource functions, including recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, training and development, and policy implementation. This role works closely with management to promote a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with ATC’s policies and employment legislation. The ideal candidate will be a personable and organized professional who demonstrates a strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and coordinate the full-cycle recruitment process including updating job descriptions, posting vacant roles, screening resumes, conducting phone screens, scheduling and participating in interviews, and providing candidate feedback.
Work with managers and HR Director to onboard and orientate all new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into the organization.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive personnel records in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Partner with First Nations and Indigenous communities to identify, attract, and recruit candidates for opportunities within the organization, supporting local employment and community engagement.
Act as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, including leading information sessions to educate team members.
Prepare general HR documentation such as forms, letters, reports, as directed by the HR Director.
Respond to internal and external Human Resources related inquiries from employees, management, job candidates, and external parties.
Partner with Management to facilitate the completion of annual performance reviews.
Ensure organizational compliance with company policies and procedures in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards Code and Human Rights Legislation.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Diploma or degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
3+ years of similar and progressive work experience in a human resource generalist role.
Knowledge of and solid understanding of Alberta Employment Standards legislation and human resources best practices.
Experience working in and with First Nations communities, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is an asset.
Strong organization, communication (verbal and written), presentation and people skills.
Impeccable attention to detail, with a steady deliberate approach in task execution and time management skills.
Ability to exercise discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across the organization.
Proficient in MS Office and experience with HRIS systems considered an asset.

Work Conditions:
Occasional travel to field locations may be required.
