Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Employment and Training, the Cultural Project Coordinator will be responsible for organizing ceremonies and cultural gatherings within the Ceremonial Helpers Program to develop the next generation of Knowledge Keepers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement programming that promotes ceremonial knowledge transfer and cultural development.
Coordinate ceremonies, cultural gatherings, and land-based workshops.
Coordinate internal and external resources to plan and execute the Ceremonial Helpers Program.
Create programming designed to promote Cree and Dene cultures, traditions, language, and values.
Work directly with program helpers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the community to support and build cultural capacity.
Conduct in-take of program helpers.
Prepare briefing notes, speaking notes, public communications, and reporting.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Completion of post-secondary education in the Human Services or Indigenous Studies or related field is an asset.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous cultures, ceremonies, and traditions.
Familiar with land-based teachings and local medicines.
Experience in leading a team and/or in a coordinator role.
Knowledge of Cree and/or Dene language is considered an asset.
Mental Health First Aid would be considered an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
Problem-solving and conflict resolution, and debriefing abilities.
Active listening and reflection skills.
Demonstrates active self care practices and awareness.
REQUIREMENTS
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Child Intervention Record Check.
Class 5 Drivers License with a clear Drivers abstract.
Provide after-hours and/or on call response is required.
Travel required when necessary.
