Athabasca Tribal Council Cultural Festival returns this fall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(February 18, 2022) - Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) has announced that the ATC Cultural Festival is back after a two-year pandemic induced hiatus. This regional showcase of Indigenous artists, musicians and culture will be held from September 8-11, 2022.

The ATC Cultural Festival will feature family-friendly activities immersed in the Cree and Dene cultures and languages of ATC First Nations. This year's event will engage, inspire and highlight collaboration, artistic development, mentorship and language revitalization.

“The ATC Cultural Festival is a celebration of the spirit of First Nation people,” said Chief Allan Adam, President of Athabasca Tribal Council. “Events like these support ATC’s ongoing work to make Indigenous perspectives, experiences and knowledge accessible to everyone as part of the healing process of truth and reconciliation.”

This year over 50 workshops and seminars will be open to the public, while round dances and tea dances, along with community feasts, will be foundational across the four-day festival. Featuring a hand games tournament and attractions for all ages including a fashion show, and some of the best Indigenous artists from the region, this is a must-attend event for the whole family.

“We are happy to announce that the ATC Cultural Festival is back,” said Karla Buffalo, Chief Executive Officer of Athabasca Tribal Council. “This will be a gathering and celebration that welcomes people from all walks of life to experience the traditions, heritage and knowledge of this Indigenous land. ATC members and communities are excited to share these experiences with all the attendees of the festival.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information about these or any other ATC programs, please contact Elena Gould at 780-881-6137 or email elena.gould@atcfn.ca.
