Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Education, Culture & Training, the Cultural Coordinator provides administrative, logistical, and program coordination support for cultural programming, including the Ceremonial Helpers Program. The role focuses on planning, organizing and supporting the delivery of cultural activities, ensuring Elders, Knowledge Keepers and cultural practitioners are well-supported in sharing their knowledge. The Cultural Coordinator plays a key role in enabling programming, strengthening operations and supporting community participation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement programming that promotes ceremonial knowledge transfer and cultural development.
Coordinate and support the delivery of cultural programming, cultural gatherings, and landbased activities.
Provide administrative and logistical support for ceremonies and cultural events (e.g., scheduling, travel, materials and site coordination)
Liaise with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural helpers and community members to support program planning and delivery.
Support the implementation of the Ceremonial Helpers Program through coordination, communications and participant engagement.
Coordinate internal and external resources, including contractors, venues and supplies.
Track program activities, outcomes and reporting requirements.
Support a respectful and culturally safe environment for all participants.
Prepare briefing notes, speaking notes, public communications, and reporting.
Assist with budgeting, procurement and expense tracking related to programming.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational objectives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Completion of post-secondary education in the Human Services or Indigenous Studies or related field is an asset.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
Respectful understanding of Cree and Dene cultures andprotocols.
Experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community programs is an asset.
Demonstrates professionalism, humility, and respect in culturally grounded environments.
Knowledge of Cree and/or Dene language is considered an asset.
Mental Health First Aid would be considered an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
Problem-solving and conflict resolution, and debriefing abilities.
Active listening and reflection skills.
Demonstrates active self care practices and awareness.
Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.
Requirements:
Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Clear Child Intervention Record Check.
Class 5 License with a clear Drivers abstract.
Availability to travel and work outside of business hours when necessary.
