Job Summary:
The Athabasca Tribal Council is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Kinship/Foster Care Support Worker to join our team. This role is vital in supporting the safety, stability, and overall well-being of children and youth placed in kinship and foster care settings. The Kinship/Foster Care Support Worker plays a vital role in promoting the safety, well-being, and healthy development of children and youth in kinship and foster care placements. This position provides direct support to caregivers, conducts regular home visits, and collaborates with social workers and community partners to ensure children are placed in nurturing, trauma-informed environments. The role also involves assisting with the recruitment, training, and licensing of care providers, while upholding legislative requirements and best practices. A key focus is placed on maintaining family and cultural connections to support each child’s sense of identity and belonging.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the full-cycle recruitment process, including reviewing and updating job descriptions, posting vacancies, screening applications, conducting telephone interviews, coordinating and participating in interviews and completing reference checks.
Collaborate with hiring managers and the Director of Human Resources to coordinate onboarding and orientation, providing new employees with a welcoming and supportive introduction to the organization.
Build and maintain relationships with First Nations communities to promote employment opportunities, attract qualified candidates, and strengthen community connections.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and comprehensive employee records and HR information systems in accordance with organizational policies, legislative requirements, and records management standards.
Administer employee benefits, respond to employee inquiries, coordinate enrolments and changes, and facilitate information sessions to enhance employee understanding of available programs.
Provide guidance to employees on HR policies, procedures, benefits, leaves, performance management, workplace expectations, and other employment related matters, escalating complex concerns to the Director of Human Resources as appropriate.
Coordinate the preparation, organization, and maintenance of HR forms, reports, records, and employee communications.
Respond to internal and external HR inquiries from employees, leaders, candidates, service providers, and other stakeholders in a timely, professional, and confidential manner.
Support managers and employees throughout the performance management cycle, including coordinating probationary, mid-year, and annual performance reviews and monitoring completion.
Support consistent application of organizational policies and employment practices while helping ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Alberta Employment Standards Code and Alberta Human Rights Act.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational activities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Diploma or degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of progressive human resources across a broad range of human resources functions.
Strong knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards legislation and human resources best practices.
Experience working with First Nations communities, knowledge of cultures, traditions, and values, including Cree and/or Dene languages are strong assets.
Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive service delivery.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across the organization.
Excellent attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, complete work accurately and within established timelines.
Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience working with Human Resources Information Systems is considered an asset.
Requirements:
Clear Intervention Record Check.
Class 5 Driver’s License and clear Drivers Abstract.
Occasional travel to field locations may be required.
Ability to work evenings and weekends based on organizational needs.
