ATHABASCA TRIBAL COUNCIL CONGRATULATES KARLA BUFFALO AND ELENA GOULD FOR RECEIVING THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE PINS

COMMUNITY BULLETIN

(October 20, 2022, Fort McMurray, AB) – Two staff members of the Athabasca Tribal Council have been honoured with Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee pin award. 

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pin was created as a commemorative award to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th anniversary of her reign and her spirit of community service. 

Laila Goodridge, MP for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake recognized the selfless contributions of Karla Buffalo and Elena Gould. In recognition of their time, energy and contributions to improving the lives of the First Nation communities they serve, Karla Buffalo and Elena Gould were among the honoured recipients of this pin.

A member of the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation (CPFN), Karla Buffalo has been ATC's CEO since 2017, and is a leader in community development, health relations, Indigenous rights advocacy, and government relations. 

Education, Culture and Language Department Director, Elena Gould is from Bigstone Cree First Nation and has been at ATC since 2018. Elena has been instrumental in promoting Cree and Dene cultures and community collaboration in the region through her work at ATC.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of ATC, I congratulate Karla and Elena for their determination and continuous work for First Nation’s peoples,” said Chief Allan Adam, President of the Athabasca Tribal Council. “Recognition of our progress to improve the quality of life for our communities is being noticed by all levels of government.”
