Community Education Coordinator

Term: Permanent, Full-time

Job Summary:

The Community Education Coordinator supports ATC Child & Family Services by leading primary prevention initiatives that strengthen children, youth, families, and communities through education, early intervention, family wellness groups, workshops, and programming. Reporting to the Community Education and Engagement Supervisor, this role works collaboratively with Member Nations to plan and coordinate community education initiatives that reflect local priorities, demographics, and identified needs while promoting protective factors and reducing risks that impact family well-being.

Working in partnership with the Nation, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Child & Family Services teams, community organizations, and specialized service providers, the Community Education Coordinator develops culturally relevant learning opportunities that build knowledge, strengthen family capacity, and support coordinated services for children, caregivers, and families across Member Nations.

The incumbent is expected to uphold the safety, dignity, and best interests of children and youth while demonstrating professionalism, cultural respect, and sound judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Member Nations to plan and deliver initiatives that reflect community priorities, demographics, established work plans, and approved budgets.

  • Facilitate workshops, group learning opportunities, and family centered activities that promote healthy relationships, parenting, family preservation, reunification, and overall family well-being.

  • Develop educational initiatives that support Child & Family Services priorities, including reunification efforts with caregivers, traditional care, and kinship care.

  • Foster collaborative relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Member Nations, community organizations, and specialized service providers to expand learning opportunities and strengthen community capacity.

  • Identify community needs, recommend education and prevention initiatives that respond to emerging priorities and support positive outcomes for children and families.

  • Facilitate Family Decision Making Circles and other collaborative approaches that empower families and strengthen community based decision-making.

  • Monitor participation, evaluate outcomes, and prepare reports that support accountability, continuous improvement, and informed planning.

  • Complete administrative responsibilities, including documentation, participant records, purchasing requests, evaluations, and supply coordination.

  • Foster safe, welcoming, and culturally respectful learning environments while ensuring educational resources, equipment, and program spaces are organized and accessible.

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable legislation, organizational policies, privacy requirements, health and safety standards, and professional practice expectations.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Education, Community Services, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience developing and facilitating education, prevention, family wellness, or community based initiatives, including workshops, group learning, or family centered programming, preferably within First Nations communities or the human services sector.

  • Knowledge of Cree and Dene languages, cultures, traditions, community protocols, and culturally grounded approaches to healing, family wellness, and community engagement.

  • Knowledge of prevention, early intervention, child and family development, trauma-informed practice, family preservation, and strengths based service delivery.

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with Member Nations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, caregivers, community organizations, and partner agencies.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, including managing priorities, coordinating activities, meeting deadlines, evaluating outcomes, and preparing reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with applicable legislation, organizational policies, privacy requirements, professional standards, and ethical practices.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems including maintaining accurate and confidential records.

Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check.

  • Class 5 License with a clear Drivers abstract.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

  • Ability to travel regularly throughout Member Nations, work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
