Treaty Status Registration outreach sessions


In partnership with the First Nations Health Consortium, Indian Registration Coordinators will be available to assist First Nations Peoples in applying for Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) cards and Treaty registration, where eligible.

 

To access assistance with your SCIS card application and Treaty registration, visit our Indian Registration Outreach Services team at one of the following locations:

Please bring valid government-issued identification such as long-form birth certificates, Alberta ID cards, Alberta driver's licenses, or Alberta Health Cards. If you're not sure if you have a valid ID, contact Lyn Chartrand at 780-799-2461 for assistance and support in obtaining the required identification.

Dates & Locations

  • June 9: Fort McMurray – Clearwater Hotel, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

  • June 10: Janvier Multiplex , 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

  • June 11: Fort McMurray – Quality Inn, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

 

First Nations Health Consortium Role

  • FNHC staff will deliver the status registration services onsite.

  • They will bring their own equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, and laptops, required to process applications.

  • FNHC will accept walk-ins, but individuals must have valid government-issued identification.

  • Support communications and promotion for the event poster and add ATC’s logo.

  • They confirmed they cannot process applications under the S-2 ruling at this time, as it has not yet been legislated.

 

ATC Role

  • Coordinate locations and logistics for the sessions. ATC covering cost of venue.

  • Ensure venue provide tables, chairs, waiting chairs, and access to electrical outlets at each venue.

  • Arrange lunch for the visiting FNHC staff (dietary restrictions to be confirmed closer to the date).

  • Support communications and promotion for Save the Date / pre-registration for transportation/ID supports leading up to the event

  • Support transportation for participants who pre-register in advance (need to confirm IRS funding for 2026/27)

 

Strategy to Support ID Requirements (Lead-Up Work for ATC IRS program)

A key barrier is that applicants must have the correct documentation. In advance of the sessions, ATC will work to support community members in obtaining required identification, including:

  • Long-form birth certificates

  • Alberta ID cards (or another photo id government issued identification)

  • Alberta Health Card
